Cape Cod Fishing Season 2024 – It’s starting!
I think one of the hardest things for me each spring is to wait for these fish to arrive once the boat is ready. Fishing starts to creep into my dreams again, I start driving around to various spots looking for birds and seeing social media posts from my friends in New Jersey about landing fish already this season.
But the herring have arrived here on Cape Cod in full force and the days are getting longer. Fishing season is within our grasps!
We had our annual shake down boat trip early this week. Everything on the boat was working great and we are ready for another season of entertaining guests and making memories. We will be looking for haddock, tautog and black sea bass in the coming weeks as the weather will permit. These are all great fish for filling the freezer for the year.
The striped bass should be on the Southern side of the Cape by mid-May. They will chasing the squid as they come into Nantucket Sound for a short period of time. Shortly after that they will be full force into Cape Cod Bay and the Monomoy Rips. I can’t wait!!!
Shortly after that, usually around mid-June, the bluefin tuna will start to arrive in the waters around the Cape. We are then in full go mode and our season is off and racing.
Before we know it, it is August and we are bummed that the season is half over. It always surprises me how fast it goes. We hope you can find a date to join us this season. We have only a few dates in June available and only one weekend in August still available for bluefin tuna. July is wide open as is September for tuna. We have upgraded some of our striped bass gear as well as added some new lures to test out in 2024. We’ve added a couple more tuna set-ups for jigging and casting for those majestic creatures. Before May 18th, we will have our USCG safety inspection completed that is good for 2 years. We will also be running 2 weeks of charters in Quepos, Costa Rica in January 2025. 4 days of fishing for marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi, rooster fish, etc. If you are interested in joining us, send me an email: scott@ortuscharter.com.
